Wintermaul Wars guide
Wintermaul Wars is a competitive team tower defense, faithfully ported from the Warcraft III map Wintermaul Wars (Reforged 3.7) and free to play in your browser. Two teams face off: each builds a maze of towers to stop the enemy creeps, and sends its own creeps to break the other side.
Game modes
Online: pick a format (1v1, 2v2 or 3v3) and join the queue. The game starts as soon as the format is full, with random teams.
Private lobby: create a lobby, share the link with your friends, place players in teams and start whenever you like.
Practice: alone, with unlimited resources, to try out mazes and towers.
No account and no download: a nickname is all you need.
Choose your Builder
Before each game, every player picks a Builder, which decides which towers they can build. There are two families: DPS Builders, made for raw damage, and Poison Builders, several of whose towers poison and slow creeps (Crippling Poison). A Builder can only be used once per team. You have 30 seconds to choose; otherwise a free Builder is picked at random.
Build your maze
You place your towers in your team's zone, on the two Lanes the enemy creeps walk along. Towers are built instantly. Creeps walk around your towers and never squeeze diagonally between two of them: placed well, your towers lengthen their path and shoot for longer.
Every tower can be upgraded into a stronger one, and sold back for 90% of its gold price.
Sends and Income
You start with 25 gold and an Income of 25: every 25 seconds, each player receives their Income in gold. To raise it, buy Sends at your Dark Portal: each Send spawns a creep on each of the two enemy Lanes and permanently increases your Income. That is the heart of the game: send enough to grow your economy without leaving your defense short.
The Dark Portal upgrades into a Summoning Palace (1,001 gold), then a Dark Fortress (35,000 gold), which unlock much stronger and more profitable Sends. The strongest towers also cost lumber: some Dark Fortress Sends give you a lumber Income.
Lives and victory
Each team has 25 lives. Every creep that reaches the Ship, the boat at the end of the Lanes, costs one life; the team that runs out loses. A team can also surrender by voting -ff in the chat.
Game options
Air: +5 Income for everyone, and a Dragon Roost that sells flying creeps. They give no Income.
Lifesteal: each creep that reaches the enemy Ship gives one life back to the team that sent it.
Blocking: when allowed, creeps attack towers to break through a closed Lane; otherwise a blocked creep is sent straight to the Ship.
You only play with players who picked the same options; in a private lobby, the host's options apply.
